 30 Years of Bird Feeders, Food and Fun

In 1981, Jim Carpenter combined his retail experience with his avid enjoyment of nature and backyard bird feeding to open the first Wild Birds Unlimited store in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This unique store, one of the few in North America at the time, specialized in providing people with the necessary supplies and information for attracting and feeding the birds in their backyards.

In 1983 Jim, along with a partner, started selling franchises. Now there are more than 270 Wild Birds Unlimited stores located
throughout the United States and Canada.

In August of 1992, David and Kathy Menough, unemployed with 2 year old and 6 month old daughters opened their first Wild Birds Unlimited store in Arvada. With the Arvada store's success, they opened their Thornton store in December of 2003. Thanks to the support of the wonderful hobbyists who visit these stores, they are still growing.

We are dedicated to helping people turn their yards into bird feeding habitats that not only bring song, color and life, but also benefit wild birds and the environment.
